Ballou Tabla, the Montreal Impact's 18-year-old star, is headed to Barcelona B after Spanish giant Barcelona acquired him for an undisclosed fee to play in its second team.

Tabla signed a three-year deal with options for two more. His new contract includes a release clause of 25 million euros ($31 million).

Born in the Ivory Coast but raised in Quebec, Tabla started out at the Pointe-aux-Trembles Jets and then played in the Impact's youth academy (2012-15). He also played for Montreal amateur team CS Panellinios as well as FC Montreal in USL. He joined the first team in 2017 and had two goals and two assists in 21 games.

"This first transfer is an important moment in the history and evolution of our club," said Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo. "We take a lot of pride in seeing a young player, developed in our Academy, climb the ladder all the way to the first team and realize his dream to play in Europe with a big club like Barcelona.
